What is the Content Filtering Live Pilot?
It is a trial which aims to gather information for the Federal Government to consider in implementing its cyber-safety policy.
More information is available from the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (see http://www.dbcde.gov.au/communications_for_consumers/funding_programs__and__support/cyber-safety_plan/internet_service_provider_isp_filtering/isp_filtering_-_frequently_asked_questions).
Why is iPrimus participating in the content filtering pilot?
At iPrimus, we are not the custodians of the Internet - we just provide fast, efficient access to it. The real custodians are the Internet users - you!! We believe in giving our customers a voice in this important debate.
Also many customers have indicated that they would like to be involved.
In the end, our customers have the ultimate freedom to choose whether to participate in the trial or not.
Is iPrimus going to filter the internet connections of all customers?
No. The content filtering pilot is being strictly run on an OPT-IN basis. The only customers who will be affected are those who choose to participate.
What if I do not wish to participate in the content filtering pilot?
That’s fine. Participants will choose to OPT-IN.
Why should I participate in the content filtering pilot?
The filtering pilot is merely a trial. Customers who choose to participate will have the opportunity to test a new product and voice their opinion by providing feedback.
How can I provide my feedback?
We will shortly release a new section of our website’s support forum dedicated to receiving feedback about the content filtering pilot from customers and other interested parties.
How long will this pilot last?
6 weeks.
When will this pilot commence?
Within the next couple of months.
Which customers will be eligible to participate in the pilot?
iPrimus internet customers.
How do I participate in the content filtering pilot?
In April we will invite iPrimus internet customers to participate in the pilot. Customers will be able to OPT-IN to the pilot by registering for it via their Account Toolbox.
Please note that Customers will not be able to register before receiving an invitation and registration cannot be effected via the iPrimus Call Centre.
If I choose to participate, will I need to install new software on my PC?
No. The pilot involves network based filtering.
If I choose to participate, will my internet slow down?
There will be no change for customers who do not participate.
It is possible for those who do participate that network performance will be slightly impacted. iPrimus will be conducting rigorous network testing before the pilot goes live to ensure any impact to services will be minimal.
I only want filtering on my children’s computers but not mine!
This cannot be done unless you connect to the Internet with a separate broadband service.
Does participation in the pilot affect my right to privacy – will iPrimus be monitoring my surfing, and reporting it on to the authorities?
The pilot’s aim is not to track the internet usage of customers. Feedback will involve completing anonymous questionnaires.
